Morgan Yarnik
Aspiring journalist at the University of Texas at AustinHello, my name is Morgan Yarnik and I am a sophomore at The University of Texas at Austin in pursuit of becoming a broadcast journalist. I'm a native North Texan, born and raised in the suburb of Frisco, Texas. I'm 19 years old and I've always known what career path to choose.
Educational background and skills:
I
have always had a passion for news and being in the know. In high school, I decided to join two news programs, Titan TV and Frisco ISD-TV. They are both award
winning shows that have shaped who I am as an aspiring journalist today.
I have learned the basics of broadcast journalism such as anchoring, camera
shots, editing techniques, producing, and writing.
Hobbies and interests:
I enjoy trying new foods, reading, listening to country music, going to the lake for the afternoon, being outdoors, and most importantly, spending time with my dear friends and family.
Career aspirations and plans:
My goal is to become an anchor, reporter, or producer on WFAA Channel 8 News. I also plan to attend graduate school at some point during my professional career.
Journalism awards and competitions:
One of my favorite things about being in broadcast is getting to
network with such wonderful, creative people. During high school, I competed in local, state and national journalism competitions. I had the opportunity to attend the 2013 Student Television
Network Convention in Los Angeles, California. It was the best
experience of my life. I was chosen to present awards at the ending
ceremony through a video application process. I was one of twelve students chosen to present. I also competed in the anchoring competition and received the award of 2nd best high school news anchor in the nation.
